A davenport desk constructed of choice cuts of solid oak – many of which are quartersawn.

The superstructure features a brass gallery beneath which two carved panelled doors open to reveal three mahogany drawers with turned recessed knobs and a fitted walnut interior for inkwells, pens, paper and the like.

The writing slope below retains a green tooled leather insert and opens to reveal a mahogany lined interior again containing three drawers. The brass arm support therein is not original.

Beneath this the front exhibits a panel of carved patera and alternating reeding, whilst below is a large finely carved panel with a central classical urn flanked by foliate scrolls and drapery.

The lefthand cupboard contains a shelved interior whilst the righthand contains four mahogany drawers with brass recessed pulls.

All is raised on four dainty turned legs terminating in black porcelain castors.

Solid and usable. Functioning locks to the left and right cupboards along with the superstructure doors.

English, circa 1870.
