A remarkable stick chair constructed primarily of ash with a slab sycamore seat.

The form is one largely associated with chairs produced in County Down – distinguished by their d-shape seats.

The historic painted surface exhibits a topcoat of green that has crazed to perfection being both tactile and visually engaging. The original first paint is apparent beneath this in places.

Solid and usable. Historic screw repair to the rear of the top rail securing a surface split. The far left spindle is an old replacement. Traces of historic woodworm which has been previously and recently treated.

Irish, from County Down, second half of the 19th century.
