The epitome of Irish country furniture – the dresser. This example, constructed of pine, boasts a quiet confidence infused by the maker in its choice reserved ornament.

Most notably is the inclusion of ‘triple ridge’ moulding facing the shelves and bed. This was most favourable during the Regency period yet has been employed some fifty years after having fallen out of fashion. This could well be a personal persistence on the part of the maker or an influence gleaned from elsewhere entirely.

The top is framed by simple moulding with a plain cornice above. The two diagonally panelled doors exhibit chamfered frames and original hardware, which open to reveal a single shelf to the interior.

Interestingly, there are intentionally carved subtle recesses in the central upright allowing the catches of the cupboard doors to be freed with only the slightest of turns - either clockwise or anticlockwise. What may appear crude at first has actually been placed with absolute precision - whilst the smooth curved channelling of the grooves guide the catches upon closing and help secure them in place.

When acquired this has been hand stripped and stained. Using paint remnants as a guide I have sympathetically repainted and aged the surface.

Structurally sound and usable. Several historic flight-holes present
